Cancún → Playa del Carmen

- Road conditions: main highways are modern and well maintained; secondary roads require more caution.
- Speed limits: 110 km/h (about 68 mph) on highways, 80 km/h on regular roads, 40–60 km/h in towns. Watch out for "topes," the very frequent speed bumps.
- Gas stations: plentiful along Highway 307, usually with full-service attendants. Keep some cash on hand for a tip.
- Tolls: a few stretches are toll roads, notably toward Chichén Itzá and Mérida; they're paid in pesos.
- Driving rules: drive on the right, seatbelts mandatory, zero tolerance for alcohol, headlights on in jungle areas.
